{holiday} custom *typographie style* christmas cards

hi everyone!

sorry i've been lacking in the blogging department recently... but i do come bearing photos for you in an attempt to make up for it! this is not a "oh-woe-is-me story" but please excuse my absence as i was rear-ended the week before thanksgiving, i'm fine, but it's been a lot of shuffling my car to the body shop, to the dealer to repair other non-related issues, entertaining the idea of selling this one and buying another one, research, car shopping and test-driving, all of this on top of life and everything else that goes on this time of year with the holidays... so needless to say i haven't had a ton of time to blog.  so i'm sorry i've kept my readers hanging... but i've been trying to catch {or at least deal} with this curveball that's been thrown at me... i really hadn't been thinking about buying a car until my accident.  anyhow, that sums up where i've been the past two and a half weeks!

now on to the Christmas Cards...

here's one of the recent christmas cards designs i finished up for a couple celebrating a new baby on the way in 2011!  however i can't reveal the whole thing as they are friends of our's and i know that they aren't in the mail quite yet! =)

what i can say is, we centered their photo and i designed a "frame-like" boarder around their photo using different fonts, colors, and words that represent Christmas time...

it was so fun to mix up the lime and evergreen colors with the cardinal red and all the eclectic fonts!

we paired them with kraft recycled brown paper envelopes {think trader joe's shopping bag color}, then i designed and had a custom rubber hand stamp made for them {with their family name and address} to use for their Christmas cards and any of their other social stationery, all they have to do is change up the ink color and it'll become a totally different stamp!

if you are interested in me designing Christmas cards for you, the cut off to order them is quickly approaching on Sunday, December 12th!  email me at JDVpaperie{at}gmail.com if you're interested

memorial day... a day late

i meant to post yesterday to wish everyone a happy memorial day and kick off to summer, alas, i did not, so.... i'm sharing this with you today!

memorial day means a lot to my family as my dad was a marine, his younger brother a retired Jag Corps Judge, and his older brother a Marine Corps Colonel {who passed away when i was about 10} so service is not taken lightly in my family, rather, it is honored and respected. regardless of your politics i think we can all agree that the selflessness service people
demonstrate going to serve our country is highly respectable, simply because they are doing something we are not either able or capable of doing.... and that giving of themselves is why we get to spend memorial day with our family & friends, at the beach or pool, BBQ'ing, shopping the sales, or just laying low... so thank you for protecting us and serving so that we can continue to enjoy the freedoms we cherish so much!

here's a photo i saw on photographer, Jessica Claire's blog awhile back... that brought me to tears.... i have to say, dress uniform and those rings boxes... that photo is just so amazing & special to me!
i posted this quote to my facebook page yesterday, and regarless of if you like this guy's politics, he's and Ohio guy {which is where my dad's from} and i think he said it perfectly... why we celebrate memorial day!

Today we remember & honor the sacrifices that have made America the freest,

most prosperous nation the world has ever known. America’s warriors, past & present,

who have fought for the survival of liberty and the forward march of freedom.

To all who've given their lives for our country, & to those of you serving

in our Armed Forces today, may God bless each of you.

{thanks John Boehner for the quote}

i hope everyone enjoyed your holiday!

from one holiday to the next!

i've been working on lots of new projects in my absence, and i will be slowly adding these fun banners to my etsy shop... wouldn't this be cute for a valentines party? or to have hanging for your romantic dinner for two?

this banner is also up for grabs in my etsy shop too!

i used red card stock to make the scallops {which measure 3.5" in diameter},
the letters are made from kraft paper which has little black bicycles screen printed on it,
they are all strung on a cute black & white  ribbon.

and at each end of the banner i tied little bows to finish it off

if you would like a happy birthday, anniversary, or even custom wedding banner made, please feel free to contact me and we can work together to create something special!

hello 2010!

happy new year to you all!

i hope your holidays were filled with relaxation, family time, and fun... i know we certainly enjoyed our's - around thanksgiving we got the glorious news that J passed the california bar on the 1st try, so yes, i'm official married to an attorney! then in december we celebrated my dad's 65th birthday party topped off w/ him bowling 5 strikes in a row at his b-day shindig {can we say senior hobby?}.  christmas eve was spent with my whole crazy & wonderful family playing games, talking, and reflecting on the meaning of Christmas.  Christmas day J and i were off to SLC {his hometown} to visit his family for a few days and test our well adjusted so-cal thin-blooded bodies in the 9 degree cold of Utah!  i'm pretty sure at least half our time was spent playing board games, the rest was filled with good food, and spent visiting his buddies.

{our gocco'd 2009 christmas & new year's card}

as i look back at the past few months {and year} i feel as though i've traveled to the moon and back! many of last year's endeavors turned out to be rewarding and educational additions to this chapter in my life; teaching me much about myself, being a wife & daughter, being an entrepreneur, and the list really could keep going... but i will admit, despite the fact that JDV and my other biz Blair Britt Events have really come to life, i need to do more and grow them both into more.  as i look at my past few posts since my giveaway i feel as though i've been a really lousy blogger... sure i've focused on twitter and my facebook page more than my blog, but my blog is what so many clients & friends have said they enjoy... it's my journal of this journey as a business owner that i love to share.  and since i work best when i know i'm accountable for something, in writing...

my goal this next year will be to try my darndest to blog twice and post one new item in my shop on a weekly basis in 2010! they may not be my typical legnthy posts, but i WILL post =)

now i'll leave you with our christmas eve setting at my bro & SIL's home...

isn't that beautiful?? they're great at entertaining, not to mention my SIL is a FANTASTIC interior designer - they've graciously hosted many of our family holidays! we love going there, & i'm sure you can see why.

here she and i are goofing around in front of the trees - tippy toes!

Merry Christmas Eve

i hope you all have a great holiday surrounded by those you love!  thank you to everyone who visited the shop & helped make JDV Jewelry's first Holiday season a great one... i really appreciate everyone who took the time to support what i do - it'll help me keep on doing what i love - designing jewelry and many other creative things!

i'll leave you with what would've been our christmas card this year ** had we had our act together enough to get them sent out** - it's of the hubs and i on our honeymoon in bora bora

hi everyone -
sorry for the slow response to your inquiries in my etsy shop the past few days... my family and i had to fly back east due to a family member passing away, so needless to say it's been a whirlwind past few days!
